Aurelia is a WPNYC Meetup member and her company, Special Places to See Productions, gave our speakers a tour of The High Line. Every WordCamp has a speakers event. A tour of the iconic 1.45-mile-long elevated linear park, greenway and rail trail that was created on a former New York Central Railroad spur on the west side of Manhattan would be a great welcome to New York City.
It was a beautiful New York evening on Friday, 9/14. The group gathered at the entrance to The High Line at 34th Street. I had contracted another tour guide, Carol Lang, and two friends to be sweepers. I spoke to a number of persons who toured with Carol and they were pleased with her presentation. The group I had also seemed pleased with my efforts.
As we walked down the path, we were able to see that many of the buildings are actually being built on top of the Hudson Yards. The participants were able to take pictures from a distance and closer up as we came to the area where all the construction is being done. They saw the Vessel and we played a game called “The Steps is Right” and we had a winner for the number of steps at the Empire State Building (1576) and another for the number of steps for the Vessel (2500). Most of my group learned about the Shed where there will be cultural events and the mall that is being built there and one of the tenants will be Neiman Marcus (their first entry into New York City). We also talked about who would be willing to take an elevator to the 106th floor of a new building where there will be an outdoor Observation Deck with a glass floor to see what is happening at the street level. There were quite a few brave hearts who can’t wait to check this out. Some of the participants want to return next year to check these new structures.
We had a total of 5 games with small trinkets such as an eraser in the shape of a llama or a pencil sharpener in the shape of a football/basketball and a small fan that you crank, a pen in the shape of a scooter. This was Special Places to See gift to WordCamp NYC 2018 to say thank you for trusting us in providing a good experience to the speakers, sponsors and volunteers. We are also very happy to have had the opportunity to meet them.

Q. What is our venue and address?
A. Our WordCamp venue is Convene. Convene has several locations in NYC. Our WordCamp is located at 117 West 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan. An important landmark for finding our location is Bryant Park.
Q. How do we get to Convene?
A. We’ve got you covered because we are in a highly transit oriented part of the City. You can take Subway trains 1, 2, 3 or the S (shuttle from Grand Central) to the Times Square Subway Station. Q. When does registration begin?
A. Registration begins at 7:30am both Saturday and Sunday.
Q. Will there be opening and closing remarks?
A. We will have opening remarks in the morning at 8:30am Saturday. We won’t have closing remarks. Instead, our last session will lead into Contributor Day. We think that’s a great way to pull our community together at the end of our these two exciting days together.

A. Great question. We’ve got you covered on all fronts. There is no limit on coffee and snacks.
Q. Where is the After Party?
A. Our After Party is at MK Karaoke located in Korea Town. Bring your badge. It’s your ticket in. The address is 11 W 32nd St, New York, NY 10001. You can take an Lyft, cab or walk over. Give yourself 30 minutes for the walk.
Q. When is Contributor Day?
A. Contributor Day starts on Sunday at 2:30pm and ends at 4:30pm.

Yes, we will have lunch both Saturday and Sunday. What’s more, we will have staggered lunch sessions.
We are doing this to provide your more room to eat and socialize.
Lunch Session One is 12pm to 1pm. Lunch Session Two is 12:30pm to 1:30pm. To make this a fluid experience, you will have opportunities to attend presentations during lunch, as well.

We understand that lunch could be the most important part of your day. (It is for at least one of us). So we want to keep you in the loop about the time, the place and what we’re serving.
Lunch will be staggered into two sessions. Session One is 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM. Session two is 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM.
It will be located in the Gallery. You will have the option to sit in tables around the venue, or to attend sessions https://2018.nyc.wordcamp.org/schedule/ during lunch.
We know attendees have dietary preferences, dietary restrictions and allergies. We’re doing our best to meet them and would like you to help us by being aware of our menu items and their proximity to you.

While you’re gearing up for the end of the summer and plotting out those last few beach days before the weather turns, there’s one more weekend to put into your calendar: WordCamp NYC.
WordCamp NYC is New York City’s local WordPress conference organized by the WPNYC Meetup Community. It’s an inclusive weekend-long event featuring speakers on a variety of different WordPress topics for all skill levels. WordCamp promises to be an event chock-full of learning, fun, and most likely oodles of tech humor.
If you haven’t decided on whether or not you’re attending WordCamp NYC, here are 5 reasons that should pretty much make the decision for you:
#1 — Have you SEEN that Lineup?
There’s so much learning to be done in so little time! Whether you’re itching to get prepared for Gutenberg or want to learn more about how to make your websites more accessible, there’s a talk here for you.
No matter your WordPress experience level, everyone is welcome! WordCamp NYC content is specifically geared towards using and developing WordPress, but there are also related sessions on GDPR, remote team planning, and lead generation.
