Aaron Jorbin

Aaron Jorbin (http://aaron.jorb.in) works on AddThis, is a WordPress core contributor, and the author of a number of open source topics.  He has spoken at events across the country on a number of topics related to open source technology.  When he’s not busy creating and fixing bugs, Aaron serves as a simulation director at an educational simulation conference for over 1500 college students. His favorite toasts involve open source software, whisky, and the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Aaron Sylvan

Aaron is the President of Sylvan Social Technology, which helps startups to specify and execute their technical business plans. Previously, he has raised millions of dollars for his own tech companies: One Technology was a decision support software company he ran for eight years, which closed sales with Fortune 500s; TrustWorks was a social networking startup he ran for three years. Aaron holds a Global Executive MBA from IMD Business School in Switzerland, and presently operates his consultancy from New York City.

Alex Miranda

Alex Miranda is the Editor-in-Chief of the social media press release distribution company PR Underground. He is also an SEO manager at Marknet Group Inc, a web design and online business strategy firm located in Brewster, NY. A master of WordPress SEO, Alex is the assistant organizer of The Hudson Valley WordPress Meetup group. He has spoken at numerous events. In 2010, Alex was the featured SEO speaker at WordCamp NYC.

Alexander Sapountzis

As a code monkey with delusions of artistry, Alex subscribes to the “done is better than perfect” philosophy, but spends too much worrying about the details. Alex is a very outspoken supporter of WordPress and User Experience on the web. Alex tries to avoid speaking about himself in the third person.

Andrew Christian

Andrew has been coding HTML (and later CSS) since the early days of the web, seeing web design evolve from using frames and tables for layout to the dynamic web that we see today. He has been a WordPress enthusiast since starting his first WordPress blog way back in 2004 after downloading version 1.0.2 “Art Blakely.” Since then, Andrew has become involved in the New York WordPress community, both online and offline. He volunteered at WordCamp NYC in 2009 and 2010, as well as almost every meetup since then. He is also an organizer for WordCamp NYC 2012 and a founding member of the Tadpole Collective, which provides expert WordPress hosting and support.

Andrew Schulkind

Andrew is a veteran Web developer specializing and digital communication strategist. Since founding Andigo New Media in 1996, he and the Andigo team have helped clients build website and build digital marketing plans that include social media, search engine optimization, email marketing and content marketing components. Their engagement model combines information architecture, usability/user experience, and common sense.

Andrew graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy from Bucknell University. He engages in a range of community volunteer work and is an avid fly fisherman and cyclist. He also loves collecting meaningless trivia. (Did you know the Lone Ranger made his mask from the cloth of his brother’s vest after his brother was killed by “”the bad guys?””)

Austin Gunter

Austin lives and breathes life around words and people. He is a blogger, and genetically inclined connector, using his powers for good inside the WordPress community. He executes WP Engine’s digital strategy, writing guest posts about WordPress, and tweeting entirely too much at @austingunter.

Ben Metcalfe

A former London native, Ben packed his bags and headed for San Francisco in 2006 having helped build the BBC News Website and BBC’s developer platform. After a stint at MySpace to launch their platform, Ben has been part of several successful startups including an exit to Google and another to Constant Contact. Ben’s current venture, WP Engine, is the premium managed WordPress hosting platform for demanding sites that require cutting-edge technology providing speed and scale under extreme traffic loads. Brands such as Foursquare, SoundCloud, HTC and 1000’s of others rely on WP Engine to provide this massively scalable and security-orientated hosting solution for their WordPress needs.

Bob Tynes

Results oriented Technology Consultant. Specializing in Project Management  Business Systems Analysis, and Business Process Reengineering. Became interested in WordPress as a tool for rapid application development for small and medium sized businesses; and non profit organizations. Currently using WordPress for a growing non profit – the National Minority Business Council in NYC; as well as some medium sized international firms. Utilizing WordPress as part of a Web 2.0 approach – by combining WordPress with social media, videos and internet advertising – to give small and medium sized firms the tools necessary to compete more effectively with much larger firms. The speed, flexibility, and ease of use of WordPress  make it an effective tool to support such a guerrilla marketing strategy. The goal of  the presentation is to explore how we can effectively utilize WordPress.com to maximize personal and business success.

Brad has been developing websites for over 15 years, including the last 5 where he has focused on open-source technologies like WordPress.

Dana Skallman

Dana Skallman came to WordPress by way of tinkering with the outer-space of the internet and all the possibilities it holds for communicating, archiving information and displaying what’s of interest to people. It wasn’t long before she realized that her zeal for promoting equitable access to technology, without big business-reliance, lies in working with free/libre/open source software. It was a hobby that quickly spiraled into Glocal Web/Tech, a collective that builds web-based organizational infrastructure and provides ongoing support. Dana enjoys applying her techie skills to simplify technologies for individuals and organizations. She provides project work that plugs in various phases of technology uses. She is also a founding member of the Tadpole Collective, which provides expert WordPress hosting and support.

Dr. Ron Suarez

A former psychology professor turned serial software entrepreneur with four startups over 25 years, Ron’s company http://LoudFeed.TV offers digital strategy and technology solutions for social entrepreneurs (with a focus on WordPress and BuddyPress). Ron also did the initial configuration and hosting for NYCGA.net, the official NYC General Assembly social network for OccupyWallStreet, a BuddyPress site with 9,000 registered users that got a million visits in the first 3 weeks.

Eric Andrew Lewis

Eric is a Philly grown, Brooklyn based developer. He’s been working with WordPress for the last few years, currently as a developer for WebDevStudios.

Erick Hitter

Erick Hitter is a Boston-based web developer with Oomph, Inc. specializing in complex WordPress implementations for high-traffic sites, including several on the WordPress.com VIP platform. He is also responsible for the company’s BuddyPress projects and is a core contributor to WordPress. Erick has created a number of plugins available from the official repository, including WP Print Friendly and View All Posts Pages, as well as the WordPress.com VIP External Permalinks and View All Posts Pages plugins.

Evan Solomon

I work at Automattic and do a mix of traditional engineering and marketing. On WordPress.com I mostly build internal tools we use to experiment with changes, and measure and analyze data from those experiments. Now I’m working on relaunching Code Poet, which will be a new resource for WordPress developers everywhere. I also grew up in NY, and I badly miss the pizza, bagels, and general hatred for the Red Sox.

Frederick Townes

Frederick Townes is the Senior Technical Advisor to Mashable.com and founder of W3 EDGE a new media oriented software development company. From 2007 to January 2012, he served as the Chief Technical Officer of Mashable, building / maintaining of the network of sites / products and scaling Mashable‘s infrastructure. His passions and experiences are diverse, ranging from founding startups, user interface design and development, blogging and social and social media marketing. Frederick currently splits time between Florence, Italy and Boston, Massachusetts and is a graduate of Boston University, where he focused on computer science and mathematics.

Garth Koyle

Garth is Co-founder of Event Espresso and has over 10 years experience in business management and internet marketing. He competed in the 2011 Utah Entrepreneur Challenge for Event Espresso, taking home the grand prize of $40,000 for their business plan. He innovates new business forecasting and management techniques specific for the WordPress community. He has spoken at WordCamps Chicago, Salt Lake City, and Detroit on WordPress entrepreneurship and plugin development. He earned both a Master’s of Business Administration and a Master’s of Healthcare Administration from the University of Utah in 2011, and a Bachelor’s in Communications from Brigham Young University in 2006. His strengths are in business management, strategy, entrepreneurship and customer service. He enjoys helping other people and small businesses be successful, spending time with his family, and injuring himself in outdoor recreation.

Gregg Watt

Gregg works as a designer and project manager at McKinsey & Company in New York City. He started his career as an analyst programmer working in South Africa, England and America before studying Film, Video and Animation at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence. Since then he has worked on projects for both large and small companies. From National Public Radio to the Discovery Channel, from entertainment companies to Reader’s Digest. Gregg is also mad about movies.

Hal Goodtree

Hal Goodtree is the Editor & Publisher of CaryCitizen.com, a 2011 Knight Foundation New Media Fellowship company. His expertise is on reaching local audiences small and large.

Helen Hou-Sandi

Helen is a User Experience Engineer with 10up, working exclusively with WordPress in all levels of development. From front-end slicing to deep integrations of custom content, Helen creates functionally complex yet usable and integrated admin interfaces. She also spends up to 20% of her time contributing to WordPress Core and other community efforts. When not developing with or for WordPress, Helen is also an accomplished and actively performing pianist.

Jake Goldman

Jake Goldman is the owner of 10up LLC (10up.com), a distributed web agency focused on awesome WordPress implementations with 12 full time employees. At 10up, Jake works on exciting and wide ranging WordPress projects, like TechCrunch, NBC Universal Sports, 9to5 Mac, Hip2Save (the official deal blog of NBC’s Today Show), VentureBeat, and Trulia. Jake is a writer and expert reviewer for Smashing Magazine, teaches WordPress at Boston University, and has authored over a dozen highly rated WordPress plug-ins. Jeremy Clarke is a PHP, HTML, CSS and WordPress hacker from Montreal. First introduced to WordPress in 2005, John has been an avid WordPress user, theme creator, and plugin author ever since. Among his various plugins is the popular breadcrumb plugin, Breadcrumb NavXT. John Keegan

John Keegan created the hosted blogging service BlogHarbor in 2003 and launched the managed WordPress managed hosting service PressHarbor in 2007. He currently serves as Director of Technology for NBC News.

Jonathan Goodman

Jonathan Goodman is President of Halyard Consulting, an Internet marketing company, that exclusively uses WordPress to build out client sites. Jonathan holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University, an MS from the College of New Rochelle, and a BFA from Ringling College of Art and Design. He is also an active attendee of the WordPress NYC Meetup Group.

Josh Leuze

Josh is a WordPress developer from Minnesota who loves making themes. He is the author of the popular Meteor Slides plugin and recently joined the WordPress Theme Review Team.

Kathryn Presner

Kathryn Presner of Zoonini Web Services – http://www.zoonini.com – takes a holistic approach to web design and development, building unique sites that work well, look great, and are easily found in search-engine results by the target market. She is passionate about helping people avoid common website pitfalls and enjoys speaking to entrepreneurs on the topic. A moderator in the WordPress support forums, Kathryn has given talks on WordPress at events including Girl Geek Dinners, Podcamp and WordCamps in Toronto and Montreal.

Kenny Katzgrau

Kenny Katzgrau is a startup cofounder and former engineer on Yahoo’s Ad Exchange. He’s the author of WPSearch, one of the highest-rated search replacements for WordPress, and ‘Sparks’, the CodeIgniter framework’s package manager. He has an unhealthy obsession with LAMP performance, efficiency, and has spoken about it at several Meetups and conferences. He also lends a technical hand to several hyperlocal blogs in the area, including TheLoop in Westchester, NY.

Kevin Cristiano

Kevin Cristiano has been working with WordPress since 2006.  He has deployed, managed and developed more web sites than he can remember.  With a background in running both Linux and Windows Servers, he has spent More hours than he’d like to admit tweaking websites. Kevin Miller is a developer living and working in Corvallis, OR, and running P51 Labs. With over 10 years of experience programming in dozens of languages, the web is his true passion. Mary Beth Coudal, a journalist and a performer, has five WordPress blogs. As a stand up comic, she’s performed at Caroline’s and Stand Up New York. As a writer, she’s been published at Salon.com, the New York Times, Self, and others. She’s the staff writer for a faith-based women’s group. She enjoys the social aspect of social media.

Marko Heijnen

Marko Heijnen is a WordPress and mobile developer and founder of WP Rockstars. He has been working with WordPress since 2006. Since 2009 he started contributing to core. He now works on innovative projects, services and plugins.

Mason James

Mason makes people happy with their WordPress experience. If you’re having problems with WordPress and it’s making you feel down, Mason will make things better for you. He currently runs one of the largest commercial WordPress support teams on the planet, at WPMU DEV. As a private consultant, he project manages custom development from inception to completion, including everything from small business and corporate websites, to thriving BuddyPress communities, to custom web apps, and large-scale Multisite networks.

Matthew Winkel

As a communications officer, consultant, and educator, Matthew is dedicated to improving organizational and community development through his expertise in web & multimedia production. He has provided web content solutions for a number of corporations, non-profit groups, and educational institutions including The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Princeton University. At TCNJ, Matthew specializes in web communications and administers WordPress Multisite. He is also an instructor at the College and offers courses on the history of diversity in New York City and the United States.

Max Cutler

Max Cutler is a student developer from Philadelphia. He is a WordPress core contributor working on the XML-RPC API component, and has consulted on numerous projects integrating WordPress with external systems and other CMSs. He is also a core developer on the official WordPress for Windows Phone mobile app.

Meeky Hwang

Meeky Hwang is a member of NorthPoint Solutions, which has been at the forefront of delivering some of the highest traffic content-managed sites. She has been involved in development of WordPress implementation for clients such as Time Inc., Hearst and Shaw Media, and to support large spikes in traffic coming from show events like the Autoshows.

Mel Choyce

Mel Choyce is a web designer, geek, and craft beer enthusiast living in Western Massachusetts. She works for CommunicateHealth, a communication firm specializing in user-centered design. Mel also co-coordinates both the Western MA WordPress Meetups, and Valley Summit, the Pioneer Valley’s annual conference for web professionals.

Melissa Cahill

Melissa is a top-notch problem solver, dedicated to helping clients with their web technology challenges. After 15+ years experience in applications development, content management, and marketing/communications projects, in 2010 Melissa launched Panoptic Online Marketing, a full-service Internet marketing agency providing integrated solutions for small businesses seeking to leverage their online presence through SEO, SEM, paid search advertising, email, social media and SMS (text message) marketing. Michael Bastos

I’m a Self and School taught Software Engineer working at Gap Intelligence with a Bachelors in Computer Science from National University and served as a Marine for 8 years. WordPress is not my day job but it is my passion, most of my focus is on backend server development and optimization. I also run a large Advanced WordPress Facebook and Meetup.com Group that gets together once a month both in San Diego and Los Angeles.

Michael C. Clark

Michael C. Clark is the Creative Director for MC3 Studios in New York City. He has over 15 years experience as a technical consultant and corporate trainer. He loves WordPress and selling WordPress to non-believers. Michael holds a BA in Communications from William Paterson University. Michael Gyura

Minnesota-bred Michael Gyura is a co-founder of Poka Yoke Design, a multi-media design agency, and Worship Times, an organization that helps ministries with online tools (utilizing the amazing WordPress Multisite). He currently resides in Princeton, NJ with his wife and two sons.

Mike Toppa

Mike is Director of Developer at WebDevStudios, and he’s been coding for the web since the days of the Mosaic web browser and HTML 1.0. His 18 years in web application development range from academic experience at Georgetown, Stanford, and Penn, to dot com experience at Ask Jeeves and E*Trade. Prior to joining WebDevStudios he was the Director of the Web Applications Team at Penn’s School of Medicine. Mike is the author of several free WordPress plugins, he’s spoken at WordCamps in Philadelphia and Nashville, as well as the Wharton Web Conference, and has written for PHP Architect magazine.

Reess Kennedy

Reess Kennedy is a developer working at the intersection of television programming and the Web. He builds, alongside a team of designers and developers, video-centric websites for media companies and often turns to WordPress as the backbone for these projects. In addition to managing and working with the team at Dijad, he currently serves as the Director of Digital Media for CABLEready Corporation, the leading U.S. television distribution company and as a Partner for sister company CableU.tv, a subscription based website that publishes insights and trends for television industry professionals. He is an avid runner and really enjoys writing the English language and meeting and speaking with real live people as well as writing code and talking to machines.

Rindy Portfolio

Rindy Portfolio is a front-end web developer and writer specializing in the creation and maintenance of WordPress sites. He has been using WordPress since 2005 and is a regular at the WordPress NYC MeetUp. By day he works in the tech department of a market research firm, and by night he runs the boutique web development firm Crosscut Software. By day, I’m a graphic designer for a New York City based investing startup, Betterment. I’m tasked with creating a brand that is clean, simple, and beautiful (everything your average financial institution is not!). Steve Bruner

Steve Bruner is the CEO of SlipFire LLC, a New York City based WordPress development studio, and a partner in Piklist, a powerful web application builder. His first taste of HTML was over 14 years ago when he built his first “website” and used Mosaic to create in-store kiosks. Years later, he discovered and embraced open-source technologies, and has been a strong proponent of WordPress ever since. When he’s not working with clients, Steve runs the WordPress NYC Meetup.

Tammie Lister

Tracy Levesque

Tracy Levesque is a co-owner of YIKES, Inc., a Philadelphia web design and development shop. She has been designing websites since 1996 and working with WordPress since 2007. She spends her days building custom themes for WordPress and seeing how much functionality she can add without knowing PHP.
